Hello everyone! Today, I want to share my personal journey with electric toothbrushes.
If you’re new to them or feeling overwhelmed by the wide range of options in the
market, this post is for you.
Back in 2008, when I first came to America, I had never even seen or held an electric
toothbrush. I was brought up with the manual toothbrush - it was all I knew. I didn’t
believe that a machine could clean my teeth better than I could.
I got my first electric toothbrush when I got into dental hygiene school. But guess what?
I kept it somewhere safe and never used it. I continued to use my manual toothbrush,
and I preferred it.
Over time, I began to alternate between the electric toothbrush and the manual one. I
still preferred my manual toothbrush. But then, something changed. I finally got used to
brushing with the electric toothbrush. I learned how to use it correctly. The cool thing
was the toothbrush would vibrate if I was using too much pressure.
Fast forward to today, I cannot use a manual toothbrush. My teeth do not feel clean
without my electric toothbrush. When I forget to charge my toothbrush, it automatically
becomes a manual toothbrush; when I use it in this state, I feel like my teeth are still
dirty.
Today, I own two electric toothbrushes. In fact, I sell my own electric toothbrushes. I
have been using them since 2021 and I love them because they both keep my teeth
clean.
There are so many people like me, people who have been told by the dental
professional to switch to electric toothbrushes to improve their oral hygiene at home.
Sometimes as dental professionals, we forget to examine where our patients stand in
their relationships to electric toothbrushes. It’s a process, it’s a journey to get used to
electric toothbrushes.
If you were like me in the past, trying to get on the electric toothbrush bandwagon, you
are very welcome. It’s a game-changer if you find the right toothbrush. There are tons of
electric toothbrushes on Amazon and at Walmart or Target; such that it can be
overwhelmingly confusing to decide which one to pick. Do you go with reviews? And
buy what everyone else is buying?
I get asked this question a lot in the clinic, “What electric toothbrush do you
recommend?” It depends on what your oral hygiene needs are. I personally do not think
electric toothbrushes are a one-size-fits-all. How is that even possible when we have
different preferences, and our teeth and mouths are shaped differently?
If you need additional help with deciding which electric toothbrush to invest in, please
contact me and I can send you a free guide to choosing the right toothbrush for you and
just for you. Hope this helps!
Remember, the journey to electric toothbrushes is a personal one. Take your time, do
your research, and find the one that’s right for you. Happy brushing!
